I am that mom...the one who always has her camera in front of her face but is never in any pictures! I say if you are going to document your families events why do it with a substandard camera? This is another family gift that I think is such a great investment that it's something you should consider if you take a lot of pictures. The best part about a great digital camera is you have more flexibility with what you do with your pictures after you take them. Sure you can create online albums but what if you want to print them. Sometimes a picture will look great on the screen but the quality when it's printed does not match. I love to create photo books (mostly from Shutterfly) and many pictures I've taken don't come out as nice as I'd hoped for.
